QLGRA MISSION

The Queensland Local Government Reform Alliance Inc. (QLGRA) is a non-partisan statewide alliance of groups and individuals united in the common goal of reforming the Local Government and Planning Legislation and processes, for the re-empowering of Queensland Local Communities by improving representation and governance standards in all areas of local government.

The mission of the QLGRA is to be a vigorous peak body promoting the views of Queensland local communities regarding improved representation and governance standards in all areas of local government.

QLGRA OBJECTIVES

To unite the local community groups and individuals across the state of Queensland, to form a collaborative alliance, lobbying and advocating for improved representation and governance standards in all areas of local government.

To lobby state government in all matters relating to good local government.

To advocate for:

  1. Alignment of boundaries that reflect shared community interest and identity;
  2. Representative and effective local councils that provide amenity to their communities;
  3. Accountability, openness and transparency by local government to communities;
  4. Integrity in council elections, governance and operations;
  5. The principal of community based local councils in the Queensland Constitution such that boundaries can only be changed by a properly constituted referendum;
  6. Maintenance of reasonable levels of state and federal grants and subsides to support the necessary and important role of councils in providing and maintaining infrastructure in the local communities for all citizens (including rural and remote); and
  7. Principals and machinery of government that support good governance in the Queensland Local Government Act and compliance with those principals.

To promote;
  1. The commonality of our cause;
  2. Sharing of strategy and resources with all local communities;
  3. The benefits of efficient community based local councils to the general public;
  4. Local government as an area of study in public education institutions; and
  5. A unified non-partisan democratic structure within our Organisation – “Putting Queensland Local Communities First”.
