SPREAD THE WORD

“The prevalence of social media in politics has made elected officials and candidates for public office more accountable and accessible to voters.” Murse, Tom. “How Social Media Has Changed Politics.”  ThoughtCo, 14 Jan 2019.

“But it also offers a free platform for public participation in government affairs. Many argue that the rise of social media technologies can give citizens and observers a better opportunity to identify pitfalls of government and their politics.” Fakhoury, Rania. “Can social media, loud and inclusive, fix world politics?” The Conversation, p.1.

“Social media tools have allowed Americans to easily join together to petition the government and their elected officials, leveraging their numbers against the influence of powerful lobbyists and monied special interests. Make no mistake, lobbyists and special interest still have the upper hand, but the day will come when the power of social media allows like-minded citizens to join together in ways that will be just as powerful.” “How Social Media Has Changed Politics.”ThoughtCo, 14 Jan 2019.

REAL LIFE CONVERSATION

Have a chat. In the Taxi, in the Uber, on the bus, on the train, on the plane, sitting in the doctor’s waiting room, in the checkout at the shopping centre, waiting to pick up the kids, or waiting for something in line. Pick a starter like “What do you think about the Council having to broadcast their Council meetings?” or “Did you hear about what happened down in Ipswich?” or “How good is that the Stanthorpe community have put forth their proposal to de-amalgamate?”. The worst that can happen is that your intended target is not interested, but it will have planted a seed.
