The Queensland Local Government Reform Alliance Inc (QLGRA) was birthed out of an Alliance of local community groups objecting to the local government amalgamations which took place in 2012. 

In the process of fighting the amalgamations, the Alliance identified a lack of representation and common issues and concerns in relation to governance standards across a number of local government areas in Queensland. The Alliance’s concerns in relation to representation and governance standards have been validated by the recent CCC investigations into local government in Queensland and the reforms being proposed by the Queensland Government.

Within this section, peak bodies, groups and individuals have the opportunity to come together, collaborate and execute advocacy and lobbying actions on a range of issues affecting local government and planning in Queensland. The work before us all, is too large for any one peak body, one group, or one individual to take on. If we want to improve representation and governance standards in local government for ourselves and the generations to come, we have to work together to get it done.
